KIRAN, RANCHI , Jharkhand traders stare at huge losses as heavy rain affects festive buying. Ranchi, Torrential rain not only dampened the spirit of Durga Puja revelers in Jharkhand but also dealt a blow to the small and medium traders who were hoping to cash in on festive buying. Ranchi: The Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department , on Monday issued a yellow alert for heavy rain across nine districts located in north-eastern and central parts of Jharkhand on October 2 and October 3, the day of Dussehra celebrations.“An upper air cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge into the north Andaman Sea on Tuesday.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around Wednesday. Nine districts are likely to experience heavy rain on October 2 and 3,” said Satish Chandra Mandal, scientist at Ranchi.The alert for heavy rain was issued for Bokaro, Dhanbad, Giridih, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, and Sahibganj on Octonber 2 and for Giridih, Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Pakur, Godda, and Sahibganj districts on October 3.

“Thunderstorms and lightning activities accompanied by gusty winds speeding up to 30-40 kmph are likely to occur at isolated places over the state during the period. Vast areas across the state are likely to receive low to medium rainfall during the period,” he added.With Durga Puja pandals drawing large crowds and preparations underway for Dussehra processions and Ravan Dahan programmes, organisers fear that incessant rain could impact footfall and hamper arrangements.
