Narayanpur, June 15: At least eight Naxals were killed in a clash with security forces in Abujhmarh. One soldier lost his life in the encounter, and two others were injured.

A senior police official in Raipur reported that a gunfight erupted this morning in the Abhujmad forest during an anti-Naxal operation carried out by a joint team of security personnel from four districts: Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada and Kondagaon. He added that the exchange of fire is still ongoing.“Eight Naxalites have been killed in the face-off so far. One jawan was martyred in the gunfight and two others suffered injuries,” the officer said. According to him, the operation was started on June 12 and involved members of the 53rd battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Special Task Force (STF), and District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel from four districts.

The mountainous, forested region of Abujhmarh is located in the districts of Dantewada, Bijapur, and Narayanpur. Due to its remote location and lack of accessibility, the region is said to be a centre of Maoist activity.
